National Monument - The classification of Portuguese heritage is the final act of the administrative procedure by which it is determined that a property has cultural value.
A property is considered of national interest when its protection and enhancement, in whole or in part, represents a significant cultural value to the nation. Buildings owned by individuals can not be classified in the national interest when their degradation or loss is an irreparable loss for the heritage culturel1
